The Chief Corner Stone Part 1

Among women, there are those who are exceptionally gorgeous and irresistible for the eyes to behold. Haske was one of these few of great worth. She is blessed with all physical qualities and facially mind lifting. To crown it all, she is brilliant, well behaved and decent. Who will say a damsel like Haske will not be desired by every gentleman as a life partner? She is only sixteen but behaves maturely unlike her age mates who only want to belong regardless of their physical flaws.
Mr. Matu and his wife Godiya are very proud of their daughter Haske as she is the best academically amongst their four children. Haske is the second child of the four and the only daughter. Danjuma is the eldest while Gidado and Hassan follows Haske respectively.

Haske just finished her secondary school with her taking almost all the prizes for all subjects in sciences. She was the overall best and Mr. and Mrs. Matu were so happy on the prize giving day in her school which was the government school in their community. Though they were poor, they struggled to train their children in school. Haske finally won the community scholarship for the first year in the university, awarded by the local government chairman in their community. So she must work hard to pass her first year to earn more scholarships as dad and mum may not afford her fees.

Mr. Matu sat in the small sitting room with his wife when he called Haske to advise her. He spoke from the depth of his heart these words “Haske my daughter, we are blessed to have you as a child as you have wiped away most tears from our eyes. Though we have no money but we are proud to have you. Just when we wanted to cry, your hardworking results stopped tears. Now you have written the JAMB examinations, scaled through, also passed the aptitude test and now have sustained admission into the Modibo Adama University of Technology Yola”. “Yes daddy” Haske replied. “Need I remind you…” Mr. Matu continued “… that the higher institution is a place where the good and the bad are more obvious than you see here. And you are on temporary scholarship. So work hard, eschew evil and keep making us proud”. “Thank you daddy” Haske replied. Mrs. Matu added her own lovely words to her only daughter “Haske, remember all you were taught here at home. Never forget God and read very hard to become the best female engineer you dreamt of and may the God whom I serve guide your ways”.  Haske was already filled with tears as she will miss her lovely family. She responded “I will do my best and make this family proud. Thanks dad, thanks mom” she concluded.
