The Nigerian Boy's Dream: Episode 1
As he sipped his sweet little coffee in a steel stainless cup, Emeka said softly to himself "wow so this life could be so sweet like this?" he kept on imagining a beautiful picture of a great tomorrow of himself with much optimism. behold, his exclamation was out of his mere greatness imagination.
"Chukwuemeka" shouted his mother and the sound of her high-pitched voice brought him back from the illusive realm. "yes ma'am" he responded. on getting to her at a swift speed, she gave him an axe asking him to chop some wood for her so that she could make lunch on time.Emeka's coffee sips earlier was just a lipton tea with no bread and now he has a heavy duty errand to run. after a calming sigh, Emeka took the axe, pulled off his shirt and engaged the huge logs of woods as he chants an Oliver De Corque's hit song "Nwanne Di na Mba". the song kept his spirit high as he showed the woods what he's made of. "ezi nwa" exclaimed his mother which means "good child". that remark made emeka happy as he kept on. immediately he was finished with the wood chopping, his father came in from his early morning Palm wine tapping.
"Emeka" shouted his father with a tiring voice. "sir" emeka responded as he made his way towards his father at the sitting room. "take this 30naira and get me some snuff from Mazi Okonkwo". "yes sir" emeka humbly replied as he went into his room and picked his shirt. with much sweat all over his body from the wood chopping, emeka made his way to mazi Okonkwo's house.
As he was whistling some sweet songs on his way, he saw some other kids going to school. some of them mocked him by calling him a dumb head. they did all that because he doesn't go to school as his parents couldn't afford the fees. he felt bad at this mockery but continued his quest for the snuff as his father demanded of him. on getting to Mazi Okonkwo's house, he met Okonkwo's wife outside who attended to him. "thank you ma'am" he responded to her kind gesture and off he goes heading home.
while he was walking through the tiny village paths, he saw some men with measuring tapes in his father's land close to their house. he knew something was not right about that. so he ran fast and told his father what he saw on his way back. "what! who dares enters my land?" shouted his father with rage as his wife came out asking what was wrong. Emeka's father picked up his sharpest cutlass and headed for his land while emeka stood aside confused and scared.
