The Nigerian Boy's Dream: Episode 6

Stepping forward to where the snake was, Emeka fetched some little sand from the ground with his left hand while he was waving his right hand anti-clockwise in motion. he poured the sand at the snake. the snake instead of striking in defense, it began to run due to the hand in motion which tends to confuse it. like a 'David', Emeka picked a stone and smashed the serpent's head at a single hit.

This whole incidence happened in less than 10minutes. the whole students who were in that vicinity were amazed at the method Emeka applied in killing the snake. to a point they all felt less brave cause they all ran away instead of looking for a way to kill the snake which was a disturbance to their peace. this occurrence made Emeka popular. he was no longer tagged as a boy synonymous with academic difficulties but was now seen as a hero who saved the day.

Immediately the bell was ranged for them to return to their classrooms, Emeka ran back to his classroom. while in class, his classmates were so desperate to ask him why he was not afraid of the snake and as well ask him the reason for the sand and hand waving method which he applied in killing the snake. Emeka told them that the reason why he was not afraid was that his late father taught him not to run away from scary animals as such will make him weak in life. the other students were shocked at such a lifestyle tips which relates to animals. one of them asked him whether his late father was a hunter. he replied saying "my father was a palm wine tapper but also hunts once in a while and when he does, he usually takes me along". another asked him saying "what was it with the sand fetching and hand waving?" Emeka told them the traditional significance of what it meant explaining thus; the sand represent the origin of creation and the hand waving  the passing of time.

This explanation by Emeka for sure puzzled them. he sounded like an old man(this was because he was always with his father who loved traditional ethics). they all looked at him and sighed in amusement of what it really was with this boy called Emeka. their thoughts were like "how could he be this wise but dump academically?" his personality remained an assignment to them in terms of ascertainment cause at least this time, he got some little respect and attention from his fellow students in class and not the usual embarrassing mockeries from them.

After series of subject periods, classes were over. students were happily packing their books to retire to their dormitories when a huge noise of students shouting was heard. this time, Emeka wondered what the problem could be. he became more shocked when he saw that even the school teachers were on their heels as well. putting on his school bag, he was asking others what was wrong but got no reply as no one had the time to explain what was going on. As Emeka came out and looked afar, he saw something that made his heart skip a beat.
