When different natural resources are discovered in any country,
the government plays a key role in its extraction but the private sector do
have some cuts in this system as they have investors who do not only extract
this resources as well but they also maximize it by making good use of it in
the manufacture of goods which they market. The government of every country in
the world understands this as it is a boost to economical  development. But then they provide policies
which guides the private sector and itself to ensure they maintain some
reasonable power  in the national
development.

The economy by the above practices is boosted but another
question to answer is, are investors and marketers happy most times with
governmental policies? Well when the government makes certain changes in its
rules and regulations that control the economy, the marketers have methods they
usually implement to bring about the amendment of the policies. Lets use
Nigeria’s  economy as a case study.

Whenever the Nigerian government make more policies for the
benefit of her economy and it doesn’t favor the marketers and investors, there
are certain activities they embark on to have the rules consider their  own point of view. Below are some common
activities they use as tools for getting at the governmental policies.

      1.       Scarcity Of Commodities:

When investors wants government of
the country where they operate to consider their point of view and the government
ignores their plea, they intentionally decide to make their commodities and
services  scarce in the community for the
people. Ideally in economical practices scarcity has a function but in this
case it is used for a different purpose just as discussed. When the commodities
are scarce, the masses would be in a needy moment and since it is the duty of
the government to carter for its people, it will have no choice but to give an
ear to their plea for the purpose national comfort for citizens.

Nigerian Union of Petroleum and Gas
workers(NUPENG) and PENGASSON went on strike in this month of May 2015 in order
to have their request to the government considered. Well some days of scarcity
of fuel supply and increase in price were experienced, they later resolved it
after a meeting amongst themselves. This is to show you how effective the tool s
that marketers use to have their  way in
the growing economy.

     2.       Strike:

Sometimes different marketing  bodies which are not controlled by the
government embark on strike. They do this because there is no alternative to them.
Currently in almost all sectors of Nigeria’s economy, the private sector is
pulling lots of weight and as such play crucial functions for the growth of the
economy and in the service to the people of the nation. In history people who
have made much breaking records in economy were mostly enterpreneurs who are
investors and marketers at the same time.

       3.        Increasing Prices without Scarcity:

Normally the prices of commodities
increases when it’s short in supply. But the reverse is the case in this
context as marketers use this to get back to the government when their plea on
increment of taxes is not considered. They will then decide to balance the
table to avoid being at loss by increasing the prices of the services they
render. When the public complains, they government will have to consider the
citizens once again.

All the above mentioned methods
which marketers use to overcome governmental policies that do not benefit their
businesses were written  based on observation
and practices of marketers in Nigeria. It may vary with other countries.
