My Survival Series Pt2: "The Night At Yewa Husere"
After calming down with the water and meal he gave, we all managed a small room which he offered which was supposedly his bedroom. we were about 25 of us. we all laid down to rest but the night became so long as we were all quiet and thinking deeply of what has become of mubi town and what will be our fate at that night in a strange land.
Some of us were able to sleep while some couldn't. i then received a phone call from a friend who was still trapped in mubi. he told me that the school was in fear as they were all outside the dormitory because they were not yet sure of the nature of things in town. as we all still laid we heard a loud blast from afar. the panic grew deeper as we couldn't tell where and what it was.
As the night began like a day of its own, i was confused and bitter as i began analyzing what will become of me after this chaos that has befallen the location where i school. question like "will mubi survive this captivity?" where will i go from here? so many uncertainties became my thoughts. as we were struggling to sleep, three motor bikes passed at a very high speed and we who were awake on hearing it became troubled as we wondered of what could be the reason for such speed at a late night. a lady we all called mimi who was a HND 2 civil Engineering student laid close to me. she was already hurt form the stress of the running and needed to stretch her legs but couldn't as we were much in the room. i could hear her sighing in pain and fear as well. she later received a phone call from a friend who heard the situation of things. i could hear him encouraging her and suggesting she should try her best to be alert in the strange land where we were. another painful part of the night was that it was as if the clock ticking was against us as the morning seemed to be days away. how i longed for it to come.
As God will have it, it was dawn. we all rose up and prayed. i can still recall the prayer of protection we uttered as we were not sure of what step to take from that strange land. we all stood up and picked our bags for those who had bags to carry. as we all came out, we started making phone calls to know what was the situation of things in mubi town. as i called my friend who called me at night, he told me that they are already running through the bushes as from midnight as they saw huge smoke rising from a nearby university very close to our school. at this point we all knew that it was no longer possible to return to mubi. we all decided to seek a route that will lead us to the state capital Yola. after getting a liitle information of some routes to take, we all saddled our bags and prepared our minds for a journey we couldn't estimate.
